This craft is great for those little ones because they enjoy anything that has to do with candy and sugar. Now, I’m not a mother just yet… but am I right or am I right? I’m right.

{CountryLiving}

Directions:

Purchase ”specialty”cones at a local ice cream shop (you can also use a pizzelle maker to create them yourself if you want to spend the time). Use a wooden skewer to gently dig holes on the sides of the cone. Be careful not to crack your cone doing this! Dip the opened end into icing and sprinkle with colorful/sparkle sugar. Let dry before stringing your choice of Christmas thread through the holes. Fill each cone with holiday candy.

Hint: To keep the cone light enough to hold, fill the bottom of each cone with paper towel. Also, while filling the cone let it stand inside a cup to make the process easier.

What a fun way to spread sweet holiday cheer… literally!

Last night, I made Homemade Minestrone Soup for dinner and Banana Fosters for dessert. I’ve decided to share the Banana Foster recipe today (since I’m craving it right now) and I’ll share the Minestrone recipe later this week. This recipe took about 5 minutes to make and it was BOMB dot COM. I’m sure Debs is cringing right now since this recipe is made using rum; however, believe me when I say that the rum and the dark brown sugar make this dish. (Debs, If you want to borrow my $5 bottle of rum sometime, I’ll drop it off at your house.)

.

BANANA FOSTERS

Ingredients

1/4 cup butter

2/3 cup dark brown sugar

3 1/2 tablespoons rum

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3 bananas, peeled and sliced lengthwise and crosswise

1/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

1 pint vanilla ice cream

Directions

In a large, deep skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in sugar, rum, vanilla and cinnamon. When mixture begins to bubble, place bananas and walnuts in pan. Cook until bananas are hot, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve at once over vanilla ice cream.

P.S. I found this recipe on All Recipes and it makes 4 servings. Enjoy!

Many of my nostalgic childhood memories involve sitting in grandma’s kitchen watching her whip up lunch, dinner or desserts. Boy, oh boy, does that lady know her way around the kitchen or what! Often times, these kitchen adventures turned into grandma teaching me her recipes (i.e. bread, cookies and pies). As I sit here and reflect on these “warm fuzzies”, I truly believe these little moments helped spark my love of cooking and baking. For that, I am truly grateful.

In honor of Grandparent’s day, I thought I would share some of my Grandma’s recipes. Particularly her chocolate recipes. After all, we are also celebrating International Chocolate Day. Coincidence that these two holidays fall right next to each other? I think not.

Today’s recipe is my Grandma’s Rice Krispie Ice Cream dessert (with a chocolate twist). Grandma doesn’t make this recipe with chocolate, but I thought I’d give it a shot. All in the name of International Chocolate Day! For those of you who are familiar with the “Crunch Cone” at Diary Queen, this recipe kind of reminds me of this (minus the sprinkles).

INGREDIENTS

3 Cups of Rice Krispies

1 Cup Shredded Coconut

1 Cup Brown Sugar

3/4 Cup Chopped Nuts

1/2 Cup melted salted butter (or margarine)

1/2 Gallon of Vanilla Ice Cream (or chocolate ice cream – I used Blue Bell’s Great Divide Ice Cream {half vanilla, half chocolate})

DIRECTIONS

Mix first four ingredients.

Pour melted butter/margarine over it mixture and mix.

Pat half of the mixture in the bottom of a 9 x 13 Pan. (or if you have a smaller carton of ice cream, place mixture in a 7.5 x 11 pan).

Add ice cream to the top of the mixture.

Place the second half of rice krispie mixture on top of the ice cream.

Try serving this with raspberry sauce for a great “Sunday Dinner” dessert. (Side note: my grandma likes to add fresh or frozen raspberries to her sauce. She uses Junket Danish Dessert {raspberry}. You can find it at Basha’s or Walmart above the Jello mixes.)

Thanks Grandma! I love you!

Camberley

ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT TO ORDER!!!

Listen up Arizona! The Chocolate Dessert Cafe is coming to the Valley of the Sun for a LIMITED TIME ONLY!

The Chocolate Dessert Cafe is based out of Orem, Utah and was developed by a fantastically talented woman ~ Ange. Ange happens to be one of my best friends. So, without further ado, I give you Ange!

Through extensive training in New York, Ange has perfected the art of making delicious desserts. In addition to this, she has traveled all over the country searching for decadent dessert recipes.

Right now, Ange is taking delivery orders for Arizonans. You can order her scrumptious indulgences now, thru the 11th of March. Then, on Friday (March 12th) she will deliver fresh desserts to your door. If you want to order something (and you do {I’m saying this is my best hypnotic voice}) you may call the store directly at (801)224-7334 and specify that it’s for Ange’s “Arizona delivery.” Or email your order to eatcake@thechocolatedc.com.

Don’t know what to order? Check out the menu at www.thechocolatedc.com

I will be ordering a dozen baby cakes for $12.

Or maybe I’ll order the German Chocolate Cake…. Mmmmmm, now that I’m thinking about it, I may also order some mint brownies….. There’s always the “Veronika” {Ange knows that is truly my favorite}. Go. Check it out. Let me know what you are ordering. Maybe I’ll order that too.

If you are in the Orem area you could stop by and check out the cafe at 212 S. State St.
Orem, UT, 84058
I hope to get there very soon to visit. Here are some pictures of her cafe. Enjoy!
