Link to Spring 2012: Bright and Fluorescent

Yesterday, Debs shared a post about the color Tangerine Tango. It had me thinking about how much I LOVE bright colors. In fact, I am taking an elective art class right now in school and we’re discussing the effect color has on our moods. Most of us know this. Anyway, what I didn’t know was that it can also change our body temperatures, or at least how we perceive our body temperature. For example, a study was conducted with a group of people in an office building that were complaining about it being too cold. Instead of changing the actual temperature inside the building, the “conductors” chose to change the wall color. They changed it from blue to red, and guess what? No more complaints.

I don’t know where I am going with this story… other than color is awesome. And it looks like bright pastels and fluorescent are in the forecast for Spring 2012.

Happy Friday everyone!

Link to Christmas Decor with CB2

I often click through CB2 because I STILL have Crate and Barrel gift cards from our wedding that I can use in their store. I’ve been hanging on to them for almost two years now. I know, what’s wrong with me? Since we have been highlighting Christmas decor trends and what-not, I’m going to share some items I clicked through and thought would be fun to “deck the halls” with. Fa-la-la-la-la!

  1. glass toothpick ball ornaments
  2. astro ornament
  3. peace wreath
  4. mirror garland
  5. for you gift tags
  6. oliver peppermint stick appetizer plate

Link to Fall 2011 Fashion Trend: Plaid

Plaid made its debut on the fall 2011 runway, and is easily considered a fashion trend for this season. When I saw how prevalent it was in various designer collections, I had to ask… ”When isn’t plaid a fall trend?”

So, when I came across this laptop bag at Urban Outfitters over the weekend (marked down to only 10 dollars!!!!), I knew that it was coming home with me. Luckily, I snagged it before Cami or Keighley could beat me to it. It felt like survival of the fittest while we were digging through the sales bins.

Pretty sure I can’t get enough of it. I have had it hanging in my sight all weekend, and feel pathetic for catching myself staring at it all the time. It’s love!

Link to I pink so

I first laughed at these photos because I look so darn preppy. Then, I laughed at myself for wearing purple and pink. Say whaaa? I don’t think I’ve ever let these two words fall in the same sentence, let alone the same outfit. What’s happening to me? Who am I?

I’ve never had a problem with purple, but my hate for all things pink was realized in junior high when I sat next to a girl who wore hot pink velvet jumpsuits, had a pink fuzzy pen, pink streaks in her hair, pink binders, and she eventually had a car with pink zebra seat cover. All she was missing was a chihuahua named Bruiser and a 179 on the LSAT– with help of her sorority girlfriends, of course.

I feel I had the right to take a break from pink for a few years, don’t you? Yes I said years. It’s amazing what a little post-traumatic stress disorder can do. Doses people, pink must be used in doses.

Luckily, my eyes were opened to other shades of pink: Fuchsia pink, coral pink, magenta pink, salmon pink, brink pink… and it’s safe to say that pink has stolen my heart again.

So now, here I am having purple meeting a very pale shade of pink. The dress brought out some of the lavender tones in the shirt, which kept the colors from fighting. And guess what? I survived!

(Pink girl–if you’re out there somewhere– it’s not you, it’s me. The whole look was going for you. However, I’m just super sensitive to pink. To each her own, right?)
