Sunday we celebrated the birth of Queen Keighley Anne…

And while she graciously said she would not mind skipping her birthday highlight on Fancy House (we wanted everyone to have the chance to see the post announcing our contest), it just didn’t feel right doing so. She’s obviously more important than a contest.

Here’s to singing trashy rap songs to Debs, being hypochondriac together, and allowing all of us siblings to call you to vent about our problems.

Being closest to me in age, I’ve given you no choice but to be my strength during the trivial and even the toughest of times. You have been my rock. I know you feel that you chose all of us to be your siblings and that it didn’t just happen by chance…

Well guess what, we chose you too.

Happy birthday our Osgood-Schlotter, SKNB limbed and gorgeous, historical guru. WE LOVE YOU!!!

Dallas II

Although there are hundreds of trends we could highlight from our Dallas trip, I’m going to wrap up my experience today. Maybe Debs will highlight some trends that made an impression on her later.

Nautical inspired decor is still big. Actually, bigger then I expected. Coral, seashells, and marine-life were everywhere. I’m not a big fan of this trend… are you?

There’s not much to say about this trend. It is everywhere and it appeared in even the most traditional showcases. Industrial work stools, Tolix chairs, burlap ottomans, egg basket wire pendants, and metal baskets-Oh MY!

These are a few of the random items I snapped with my iPhone at Dallas. I must admit that the masks were my favorite…

Now, no trip is complete without some thrifting and antiquing. Down the road (1/2 mile) from the Market Center, where all interior designers and retail store owners shop, is a strip of antique stores. It’s the perfect location for antique stores… after all, aren’t we all looking for the unique? On our last day in Dallas, we spent some time browsing these antique stores that had been teasing us all week.

These are the only shots I got with my phone! Found & Lost antiques was such a great way to end the weekend. The self-proclaimed “Two shops… One great idea” was indeed that. If only I had more room in my suitcase.

Design Studio Inspiration

Today I’m inspired by the handmade gift paper sets I got at Anthropologie at an unbelievable 75% off. They’ve been moving around my office the past 2 weeks and today they happen to be right below my windowsill as the sun streamed in. Sadly, I get good sunlight in my office in the mornings for a mere hour… the rest of the day I sit in a shadowed box. ek. The colors inspired something, I just haven’t figured it out quite yet. Maybe the colors are telling me its time for a Sonic drink.

Sonic cups have a lot of color.

Or maybe its time to clean my office and find a home for all my wrapping papers.

DIY: Nativity

The holiday season is complex. There are many traditions and faiths that influence how holidays are celebrated. Some spend the month of December reflecting on religious beliefs, others focus on family, and many revolve festivities around a Jolly man in a red suit. Although we all spend the holidays celebrating different things, it’s always a season of peace, joy, and gratitude.

The following project is for people who incorporate the Nativity into their Christmas holiday.

This nativity set is from Walmart and cost $5.

I was disappointed to find out the figurines were glued down to the cheap plywood. In order to make this particular set work I had to pry the figures off the wood and soak each piece in a bowl of warm water. After 10 minutes of soaking the glue and wood attached to the bottom peeled right off!

To finish my $5 nativity, I sprayed a few layers of flat white paint onto the figurines.

All in all, an easy and cheap way to spice up the Walmart special.

Today my dollar ornaments from Walmart are making me happy.

I am currently in ‘Finals’ mode. My thoughts are consumed with significant dates in history, the longterm effects of Julius Caesars assassination, and mystery cults. When I sat down for a brief break to watch a portion of the new Sarah Palin reality show, my attention continually went to the simple ornaments sitting on my shelf. They made my brain stop hurting.

Yes, I sometimes watch the Palin show. Seriously her accent and remarks are priceless! Also, I love the Alaskan landscape…. absolutely dreamy.
