Not too long ago I shared a lemon rosemary salt scrub recipe, and I am happy to report that it has completely knocked my socks off! My only complaint about the lemon and salt? Be cautious of small cuts when using it– ouch! I totally used it right after shaving little knicks into my legs. Smart Kier, real smart. The entire mason jar that was filled is now empty and that can only mean one thing: time for a new recipe!

I thought it would be a fun idea to create a scrub to use as a Mothers Day gift. I mean, how awesome would it be to put together an entire homemade spa collection in self-created packaging? Not only is it extremely personal, but anything aromatherapy is the way to a Mother’s heart. Atleast, I think so. While brainstorming up a concoction, we kept in mind that we wanted the scrub to feel feminine and light. Here’s what we came up with:

DIY Lavender Rose Sugar Scrub

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup white sugar

1/4 cup coconut oil

1/4 cup almond oil

2 Tablespoons dried rose petals

1 teaspoon dried lavender Petals

Rose essential oil (10-20 drops)

Lavender essential oil (10 drops)

DIRECTIONS:

Warm coconut oil in the microwave. Then mix it with the sugar, almond oil, rose petals, and lavender petals. Lastly, add rose and lavender essential oils until you get your desired fragrance.

Did anyone try the last recipe? I’m telling you, you must try one of them. My skin has been thanking me all week!

I had a couple of good friends come over for a visit this morning. One of them gave me a crate of eggs courtesy of her father’s chickens, and when she handed them to me, I couldn’t help but think about Easter. Easter!? What in the world? I’m pretty sure I am still digesting my Thanksgiving meal. Heck, I think my eggshell votives from last year are still burning! If someone could tell me where time is going in such a hurry, maybe I could talk it back into staying long enough for me to get crap done.

Anyways, I have already put my eggs in a pot to boil them, and since I’ve got eggs on the mind I have been searching for creative egg decorating techniques. No, I totally don’t have time to be doing this (remember, time is running away?) and I don’t plan on decorating the eggs I am boiling either– those are purely for eating. However, it’s got me in the springtime mood, and sometimes when you are in the mood for something than nothing else seems to matter. High five to procrastination! Here are some egg decorating techniques that have caught my eye so far:

1. | 2. | 3. | 4. | 5.

I loved the creativity in all of these ideas, but I must say that the egg heads totally captured my heart. They remind me of these little rock people Debs used to make with us FHR girls when we were little. In fact, I showed it to Cami hoping that she would catch on to my nostalgia. She quickly responded with, “They look like rock people!”– Mission accomplished.

I recommend clicking on the links and checking out how each of them are made. I can’t wait to try the rubber band dyed eggs!

I have a confession to make: I love Valentine’s Day but I’m a love procrastinator. I give lip service to the fact that it’s my favorite holiday yet I don’t take the time beforehand to prepare. Everything I do for this holiday is done over a 2 day period-I think and prepare the day before and I execute the ideas on LOVE DAY. {Shhhh, don’t tell my hubby or he will think it’s okay to buy all my present at the last minute, which all women know, makes the present less meaningful. Right ladies?} So today I jumped onto Pinterest to get My Creative Mojo going and found these love-ly ideas. They fit my DIY heart-craft criteria: quick and easy to make “the day of” while looking like I’ve spent lots of time and energy making them. My family will feel so loved.

I Love Valentine’s Day. So when this time of the year comes around I keep my eyes open for fun ideas that I can do with my grandkids. After making these myself-I discovered that even adults will like making them. They are so easy and inexpensive to do!

You’ll need:
• Scrapbooking paper
• Ribbon
• Scissors and glue sticks

Directions:

1. Place 6 pieces of construction paper together and fold them in half. Cut out half a heart along the seam. (You’ll end up with 6 identical hearts. If you cut them all at once, it may be a job for strong adult hands.)

2. With the hearts still folded, glue one half to the next half. (Don’t get any glue inside the folded hearts.)

(If you decide to write numbers on the back of each half to help your child, make sure that you use a writing utensil that doesn’t bleed through the paper.)

3. Before you glue the final heart half to the first one (to get the 3-D effect), lay a length of ribbon or yarn as close to the inner fold as you can. When the final heart half is glued down, the ribbon will be in the middle of the hearts.

4. Gently open out the hearts to arrange them evenly.

Helpful Tips:
• If you can, cut out all the hearts at once so they will be identical. Or — if they don’t match perfectly — trim them once they’re glued together. You can also trim hearts with scalloped edged scissors
• Experiment with colors. How about a pink, purple and white heart? Or make your puffy hearts using heart shaped doiles.

The holiday season is complex. There are many traditions and faiths that influence how holidays are celebrated. Some spend the month of December reflecting on religious beliefs, others focus on family, and many revolve festivities around a Jolly man in a red suit. Although we all spend the holidays celebrating different things, it’s always a season of peace, joy, and gratitude.

The following project is for people who incorporate the Nativity into their Christmas holiday.

This nativity set is from Walmart and cost $5.

I was disappointed to find out the figurines were glued down to the cheap plywood. In order to make this particular set work I had to pry the figures off the wood and soak each piece in a bowl of warm water. After 10 minutes of soaking the glue and wood attached to the bottom peeled right off!

To finish my $5 nativity, I sprayed a few layers of flat white paint onto the figurines.

All in all, an easy and cheap way to spice up the Walmart special.

Just the other day I saw this red Christmas tree at a store around the corner from my house. I fell in love with it and my mind started racing with all sorts of ideas of how to decorate it. So when Keighley mentioned her idea of doing a video segment highlighting our tree decorating tips I knew it was a sign from heaven.

It was as if an angel came down from heaven loudly blowing a horn prior to announcing: “Debbie, you must get that RED tree! Do it for the blog.”

So tomorrow I’m running to the store to puchase it. Then the Bella girls are going to decorate it using our left-over decorations, items we have around our house and some very well thought out Dollar Store purchases.

This should be funny.

And creative.

And helpful.

And RED.

I think we’re up to the challenge. And believe me, we will be doing more to our tree than just adding “white” ornaments. It’s going to be a fabulous tree.

Because that’s what the angel told me.

Happy Holidays

Debs
