This past month I was perusing through one of my design industry magazines- Home Accents Today-and came across a decor look for 2011 that really caught my eye. They coined it with a catchy name: Asian Fusion. (I admit when I first saw the title of the article that I wasn’t real sure about this look but then the Vardo rug from Feizy that was highlighted caught my eye. It made me look a little closer and I soon discovered that I actually loved the idea of this decor style.)
The author of the article, Tracy Bulla, describes the trend this way:
“Look for Asia to collide with Europe as Chinese and French designs in particular comprise a perfect pairing . Hints of Art Deco, modernized antiques and classical motifs like fretwork and roses herald the beginning of an intoxicating romance.”
This look is more European to me BUT with strong influences of Asia. It reminds me of one of my favorite design clients, Pam, who has traveled the world and collected items from China and Japan. She’s mixed items from her travels with her very European decor and it looks fabulous. Who knew you could mix these two very different styles?
So here’s a few ideas of what you could put together in an Asian Fusion room.

It seems like every Christmastime there’s some decorative item that I become obsessed with. This year it’s ”unique” Christmas Trees. (Remember the red tree that I put up in my theater room? That’s where it began.)
When I came across these nostalgic looking Christmas trees it was instant love. They are created and designed by Bethany Lowe- a self-taught artist whose love of antiques and holiday traditions has led her into the world of design. Beth began her career as an artist in 1987 when she created her first Nicholas in “the Nostalgia for Nicholas Collection”. Many are based upon folk art legend characters from around the world. However, her most popular designs have been inspired by her own imagination and life experiences.
