I Love Valentine’s Day. So when this time of the year comes around I keep my eyes open for fun ideas that I can do with my grandkids. After making these myself-I discovered that even adults will like making them. They are so easy and inexpensive to do!

You’ll need:
• Scrapbooking paper
• Ribbon
• Scissors and glue sticks

Directions:

1. Place 6 pieces of construction paper together and fold them in half. Cut out half a heart along the seam. (You’ll end up with 6 identical hearts. If you cut them all at once, it may be a job for strong adult hands.)

2. With the hearts still folded, glue one half to the next half. (Don’t get any glue inside the folded hearts.)

(If you decide to write numbers on the back of each half to help your child, make sure that you use a writing utensil that doesn’t bleed through the paper.)

3. Before you glue the final heart half to the first one (to get the 3-D effect), lay a length of ribbon or yarn as close to the inner fold as you can. When the final heart half is glued down, the ribbon will be in the middle of the hearts.

4. Gently open out the hearts to arrange them evenly.

Helpful Tips:
• If you can, cut out all the hearts at once so they will be identical. Or — if they don’t match perfectly — trim them once they’re glued together. You can also trim hearts with scalloped edged scissors
• Experiment with colors. How about a pink, purple and white heart? Or make your puffy hearts using heart shaped doiles.

A recovering child. One week down. Hopefully just a few more days left. Grady has been such a little champ. He’s had some really good days, some not so great days, very bad nights and has only thrown up once and it wasn’t blood. Yeah! Today is an even better day than the others. He only had one dose of pain medicine last night and asked for pancakes this morning and even ate them all. Little triumphs make for a great day. Here are some pictures to describe our week.

Lots of pain meds.

Some terrible pain with screaming when trying to administer the pain meds. (Imagine pain medicine being spit all over my face at this point)

Then we got a little fuzzy in the head from all the drugs…

Lots of sleeping whenever and wherever he can. (this is true only for Grady, Muah on the other hand, not so much sleeping)

Let’s just hope he keeps smiling…you really never know what tomorrow will bring.

I was helping a friend of mine come up with some Thanksgiving Day Kids’ Craft ideas this morning and I stumbled on Disney’s FamilyFun site. I’m sure some of our mommy readers have been to this site. I, on the other hand, am a FamilyFun novice. This site overflows with Kids’ Crafts, Recipes, Playtime and Party ideas. Spectacular!

Here is a run-down of my favorite FamilyFun Thanksgiving Kids’ Craft Ideas. (Please note: I tried to find crafts that looked easier to do with little ones.)

Turkey Place Cards – this craft only uses four materials (ink, blank place cards, markers and little fingers!)

Make-Your-Own-Hat-Station - I love how they’ve used a black paper cup as the base for this hat. Talk about easy!

Thanksgiving Turkey Luminaries – These luminaries are lit with LED tea lights so parents don’t need to worry about their children playing with the finished masterpiece.

Thanksgiving Dinner Headband - This little craft got me chuckling and I’m sure it will get the little ones giggling as well.

Now, some of you Mommies (and Daddies) may be looking for Thanksgiving Table Games to keep your little ones entertained while you indulge in Turkey and Pumpkin Pie.

Just add crayons and you’ve bought yourself 2-5 minutes of indulgence.

Today was the big day! Our Mr. Potato Throat got his tonsils removes, adenoids removed and ear tubes put in. Here he is in his hospital gown. Ooh la la!

According to Johnny – the anesthesiologist made little Grady a dog balloon animal, tied a balloon leash around it and said “Grady, let’s take the doggy for a walk”. Happily, Grady complied. Then, our little Darth Vadar walked that balloon animal right into the surgery room like a champ!

All in all, he is doing well. Johnny said he’s been in and out of sleep all day and, the moments when he has been awake, he hasn’t mentioned any pain. If all goes well, he may even be released tonight!

Yay for recovery!
