There has been some major drama over here at the Woods’ household. First, we are stuck in Zelda (curse Snow Mountain!). Second, Dallan and I are in a heated debate about whether it would be “better to live next door to a mortuary or next to a cemetery” again (Yes, we’ve already been down this path once. Dallan says mortuary. I say cemetery. Not that we have any plans to move…). Third, I can’t decide on the perfect green paint color for our guest room.

You see, I thought I wanted to go with a “Seafoam” color. However, now that I’ve been looking at “Seafoam” paint, it all looks too blue. Who knew Seafoam leaned more towards blue? So, I’m back to square one. I guess the color I am really going for, is an antique-ish green. Does this make any sense? Here are the colors I currently have up on the wall in my guest room. I don’t really like any of them.

Of the four paint colors I currently have up on my wall, these two greens are closer to what I’m looking for. However, the green on top may be a little too “vibrant” and the one on the bottom right may be a little too “dark”. So, I’ve decided to find a color that is more in the middle. What do you think of this paint sample? I also thought about mixing these two colors together. I still have a ton of leftover paint.

Can’t envision it? Well, here are some of my random knick knacks that will probably go in this room.

1. Milk Glass Lamps: They still need lamp shades. I’ll probably go with something simple (i.e. nothing frilly).

2. Woman Praying Painting: (I need to clean off the rest of price tag). Not sure if I’ll put this in my guest room or office. However, I love the color of her blouse.

3. Coventary Ware Bookends of Child Reading: I found two of these at the thrift store and had to have them. They are from the World War II era so I won’t repaint them. I’m thinking about modernizing them with shadow boxes.

4. Bronze Metal Owl: I’m kind of sick of the trendy Owl craze. Yet, this little antique owl made me smile. (I may put him on a shelf).

5. Knit Afghan: I found this at a thrift store last year and instantly fell in love with all of the bright colors. This will probably go on the foot of the bed.

6. More paint samples: The one on top is my favorite.

7. Bronze Metal Rocking Horse: Another one of those thrift finds that I talked myself in to buying. I thought “better to have it and sell it, than regret not having it at all”.

Kind of random, huh? I guess, I find little bits of inspiration in every one of these knick knacks. What do you find inspiration in?

~~Camberley~~

Palmer Weiss is a San Francisco-based interior designer. Raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Weiss credits her Southern roots as a major influence on her design aesthetic. She admires the way Southerners embrace their family heritage, formality and tradition in their homes but are also not afraid to express a few of their eccentricities as well. This rich background, combined with 14 years of living in Northern California, has allowed her to develop a unique style that both respects tradition and embraces new ideas. A mother of two young children, Weiss also understands the need for a home to be as functional as it is beautiful. Never one to give into trends, Weiss is known for creating timeless, modern and livable interiors with her signature bursts of color and a little bit of that Southern eccentricity thrown in for fun.

Interiors and architecture are in Weiss’ blood. With an accomplished interior designer for a mother and a father in real estate development, Weiss spent much of her childhood touring construction and job sites. Though she was always toiling away in her mom’s sample closets and dissecting design trade magazines for inspiration, Weiss didn’t formalize her design career until 2002. Instead she held jobs in investment banking and retail merchandising. She believes her experience in the business world has helped her immensely in managing client budgets and meeting key project deadlines. She feels these attributes are as important to a successful client relationship as making inspired creative choices.

Weiss attended Choate Rosemary Hall boarding school, Brown University with a BA in History of Art, and received her MBA at J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. She resides in San Francisco with her husband, a cardiologist, and their two small children.

Spring is right around the corner. For us folks in Arizona, it has been here on and off since January but now that its officially MARCH I am ready to SPRUCE IT UP. For the next few days I will be sharing some info about sprucing up your home decor as the weather changes and colors seems to hit nature Full Force.

*Spruce up the Bedroom*

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary, a refuge, a peaceful retreat, and for some a romantic getaway! There are a few cheap and easy ways to make your room feel renewed and fresh as the season changes.

1.) CLEAN UP THE BEDSIDE TABLE!

Remove the clutter, books, water-bottles, Kleenex, and hair clips from your bedside table and add a VASE OF FRESH CUT SPRING FLOWERS and a SCENTED CANDLE.

2.) STRIP IT DOWN

Replace the heavy winter duvet cover with brightly colored, mixed sheets and pillows. Many people like to pack the blankets on during the winter months… well people, its time to strip it down! INFUSE your room with color.

3.) AIR IT OUT!

Open the closet doors, armoires, and drawers. Let the old air out and bring the new air in. To freshen up musty dresser drawers, chest or armoires add some new scented sachets.
