Today while I was getting ready for the day I had a moment. As I was putting on the products in my skin care regime I realized that they had to be on the top of my list of favorite things. (And I’m thankful for them as well.) I think these products directly contribute to the “50 somethings” looking like they are still in their “40′s”. What in the world did our mothers and grandmothers do without products like these?
Obagi Skin Care
I started using the Obagi Nu-Derm skin care line almost 8 years ago. And I use it morning and night hoping that it will continue to fight the aging process. What girl my age doesn’t want to look 10 years younger?
My eyes are always the driest part of my face so I love using the Obagi eye cream both morning and night.
And since I’ve always had to live with freckles (which are always cuter on other people) I love this skincare line because it’s helped me to fight off wrinkles and fade my freckles at the same time.
(See what I mean?)
Jan Marini Skin Care Products

Another favorite item: Jan Marini’s c-Esta-L serum. I put it on in the morning and my skin feels super hydrated.
Truescience Anti-Aging Cream
This latest addition to my skincare protocol has anti-aging benefits, protects my skin from cancer, get rids of free radicals that damade skin and fades sunspots. I figure that if I’m using this product I’m avoiding some serious problems with my skin in the future. For more information on this product check here. (And if you are interested in getting this product-leave a comment and I will share more.)
Vitacreme B12 Products

And when my skin is really dry. I keep this Vitacreame B12 Body Milk on hand for the times that I need a little extra hydration. I love how it feels and smells.
Skin care isn’t cheap but I’ve figured out how to do it so that it doesn’t break my budget. I love to go on Amazon.com and search for these products. You’d be amazed at the savings you can find-sometimes with free shipping. So start with the most important items and build your skin care supply from there. And remember, that these products are super concentrated so they last a very long time.

And as my Mother taught me-”All skin care products are not created equal”. It pays in the long run to use good products on your skin. At least that’s the excuse I’m using so that I can avoid the Shar Pei dog look for as long as possible.

These next few months are going to be dangerous for my bank account. For some reason I have this overwhelming need to always buy soap, bubble bath, lipgloss, lotion, and cleaning sprays that have amazing fragrances. Bath & Body Works has officially stocked the shelves with holiday scents. I’m a sucker for holiday scents. Here are a few things I have purchased at BBW so far this season.
I would just like to add that I had coupons and also bought sale items.
My favorite scent is Winter Candy Apple.
I couldn’t walk away from this super-plush blanket. I have two goals in life, 1.) to have a library in my house and 2.) have a collection of blankets. I want blankets of every size, shape, color, and texture. This was a must-have item because I’m trying to reach a goal….I love mentha anything! I may not be very good at makeup however I always appreciate a nice lipgloss.
Fragrance&Shea infused socks. I haven’t bought a holiday pair yet but I plan on getting some when my current Peppermint Socks go unscented. I have 9 washes left!
Do you love holiday scents?
Please tell me I’m not alone.

Tired of throwing away your pumpkin after all that carving? Don’t waste it! Instead, use it as a beauty mask. Here are the benefits:
Pumpkin makes an excellent face mask for environmentally damaged or sensitive skin. It is high in Vitamin A (skin healing), C (anti-oxidant) and Zinc. It also soothes, moisturizes and acts as a carrier– assisting the other ingredients in the mask to absorb more thoroughly into the skin. This intensifies the results!
Pumpkin Pie Face Mask
Potion includes:
2 teaspoons cooked or canned pumpkin, pureed
one-half teaspoon honey (regenerative)
one-quarter teaspoon milk or soymilk (enzymes digest skin cells)
Optional Ingredients
For Dry Skin
one-quarter teaspoon heavy whipping cream (moisturizing)
one-half teaspoon brown sugar (exfoliates)
(This is getting rather close to a pumpkin pie mmm….)
For Oily Skin
one-quarter teaspoon apple cider (regulates pH and promotes skin circulation)
one-quarter teaspoon cranberry juice (high in antioxidants to promote nourished, balanced skin)
Want know why I like the show What Not to Wear? Because they don’t just throw people in stylish clothes and call it good. They teach them how to cater to their body type. So, in honor of my friends Stacey and Clinton, I thought I would share some ways to dress yourself skinny because, let’s face it, sometimes we just don’t care to lose those last five pounds. Or ten. Whatever.
1. Have your piece of clothing hit at the thinnest part of your body. For dresses, make sure the tightest part falls right under your bust. This is typically your thinnest part. Also, if you consider yourself to have a gut then try avoiding thick belts around your waist. Instead opt for thin belts, that again, hit your slimmest area.
2. It’s all about what you start with. For example, wear a fitted undershirt versus one that’s stretched out. When layering, don’t add bulk with bulk. Be sure to layer with something tighter fitting underneathso that you don’t look like you are just adding weight. Majority of the time you can add tight + bulk and it’s like a positive and a negative that cancels each other out (that was for all you math whizzes out there). I must note, this is risky business so you should definitely get other opinions when doing this. You need to do it just right.
3. Elongate your body. It’s all about creating an illusion because for some reason people associate tall with lean. Have no fear shorties, you can be bite size and still seem long. Make sense? Here are some tips: when wearing heals, try going for a nude color because it will seem as though your legs are never ending. True, we all love our black pumps– however, you can still elongate your body this winter by pairing the black pumps with black tights. This too will make your legs seem like growing bean stalks.
4. Remember my post about big shouldered shirts? Turns out they help with illusions too (you can also use a well cut and structured shoulder). First, they fake good posture. Amazing posture = amazing slimness. They also draw the eyes upwards and away from your uh humm ba-donk-a-donk, and for most of us women that’s where we collect our lovely padding. It often creates that V look - where your hips appear smaller than your shoulder width (it’s all in the hips… well, uhhh sorta? In this case not so much). These well structured shoulders are your friends!! And yes, daring.
5. Water. Why does everything seem to always lead back to water? So this isn’t something you wear, but it’s always nice to have a reminder to drink just plain water. This will flush your body and get rid of any- barf, I hate this word- bloating. Without these extra gas bubbles floating around your GI tract (that sounds pleasant) you will look…. you guessed it, slimmer.
That’s all for now!
Kiersten
