Link to Dallas II

Although there are hundreds of trends we could highlight from our Dallas trip, I’m going to wrap up my experience today. Maybe Debs will highlight some trends that made an impression on her later.

Nautical inspired decor is still big. Actually, bigger then I expected. Coral, seashells, and marine-life were everywhere. I’m not a big fan of this trend… are you?

There’s not much to say about this trend. It is everywhere and it appeared in even the most traditional showcases. Industrial work stools, Tolix chairs, burlap ottomans, egg basket wire pendants, and metal baskets-Oh MY!

These are a few of the random items I snapped with my iPhone at Dallas. I must admit that the masks were my favorite…

Now, no trip is complete without some thrifting and antiquing. Down the road (1/2 mile) from the Market Center, where all interior designers and retail store owners shop, is a strip of antique stores. It’s the perfect location for  antique stores… after all, aren’t we all looking for the unique? On our last day in Dallas, we spent some time browsing these antique stores that had been teasing us all week.

These are the only shots I got with my phone! Found & Lost antiques was such a great way to end the weekend.  The self-proclaimed “Two shops… One great idea” was indeed that. If only I had more room in my suitcase.

I found some amazing prints at an antique store and am currently waiting for them to get ahem-custom matted & framed. I am so excited. Anything depicting history seriously makes my heart pitter patter. I got three prints all depicting very different scenes and  I’m sparing no expense making these prints come to life with their custom outerwear. I am planning on hanging these three darlings above my sofa… -Bam- Bam- Bam- When and if we ever move into our very own home, most likely they will go into the study.

The following pictures are images from just one of the prints. I am trying my darnedest to figure out what battle is being depicted & have narrowed it down slightly due to the presence of gunpowder and cannons.  Everything on the print is written in either German or Latin sooo its a little lost in translation right now.

{wish I would have taken some classes on German history now…}

Post Script: do you find it morbid that I am hanging a picture of war in my FAMILY room? I think it gives a message of ‘don’t mess with me or I’ll blow up in your face!’ I’m a ticking time bomb so watch out…

Link to Affordable Vintage Furniture

We’ve recently added some affordable vintage furniture to our home decor.  Someday we’ll be done. Sigh.

Mid Century Modern Entry Table:  I found this table at a garage sale a few months ago and purchased it for $20.  All it needed was a little sanding, some spot staining and teak oil.  Good as new!  Please note: Dallan is the one who arranged the photos and knick-knacks.  I still need to swap some things out.

Framed J. Cheng Art Prints: A couple of months ago, I was visiting my Grandparent’s house, when my Grandma mentioned she had a pile of things waiting to go to the the thrift store.  Immediately, I jumped out of my seat and rushed to said pile of things.  Within moments of spotting this artwork, I knew it would work perfectly in my bedroom.  At first, I thought I would refinish the frames…. now I’m not sure.  Thoughts?

While I had the camera out, I started snapping pictures of my living room.  Here’s just a snippet.

Link to Mother Goose

So far we are LOVING antique stores in California. At our first stop today we came across bins and bins and bins and bins…. (get the point?) of old prints, pictures, artwork, advertisements, brochures and paintings. We had so much fun digging. Kiersten read through old newspapers and photos, Camberley dug around in fashion magazines and art prints, and Debbie and I rummaged away in children’s artwork.

I found two particular prints I just had to walk away with! If I had a bigger spending budget I would have walked away with A LOT more. I’m already planning to return.

No these prints do not mean I am pregnant… YES they are even more beautiful in person! Hopefully I have a little girl or my boys are going to have Mother Goose & a picture of two sisters playing. Oh well, at least they are pretty.
