Day #1: Portofino Italy

Activities for the day: Checking  in on facebook and Site Seeing

Yes, we’ve arrived safe and sound to Italy, have overcome jetlag and hooked up the computer in order to connect again with the outside world i.e. friends and family.

Which meant that I had to get on facebook to see what new and exciting things were happening to the people I know and love since I’ve been gone. And while doing so a powerful force overcame me and caused me to do a status update. {Inside scoop: doing this is very unusual for me as I suffer from facebook “performance anxiety” ie. are my status updates witty enough, funny enough, poignant enough and interesting enough? In fact, let me also take this opportunityto apologize to all my facebook friends who have had birthdays that I haven’t acknowledged-now you know why I don’t wish you a happy day-it gives me a panic attack! Seriously!!}

Anyway-back to the post:  Today I figured that I finally had a thought that was actually too good NOT to share. So this is a recap {with added comments} of what I shared earlier:

If I had a superhuman power it would be to have eyeballs that are cameras. I’ve seen the strangest people in the last 2 days-from Newark New Jersey {yes, that’s right “the”Jersey Shore}  to the streets of Milan Italy {fashion -or should I say wear whatever you want- capital of the world}. Words cannot describe what I’ve seen.

Why would I want this particular super power? It’s because I love nothing more than people watching. And I love to observe those people that act and dress outside the norm {or should I say my norm?}. It’s what I live for. It brings me joy and makes me laugh really hard on the inside.

And it makes me say funny {and sometimes naughty} things about total strangers.

For example, today I was in the beautiful town of Portofino Italy.

And what did I spend half my time doing? People watching. And trying to take pictures of the bizarre outfits I saw people wearing without them noticing. So most of my pics end up being shots of people’s sides or backsides. I’m afraid to shoot them straight on, (See why I wish my eyeballs had cameras?)

But these pics will give you a sampling of what I got to see today. For example…

How about the 60 year old guy with the 20 year old “Kendra” look alike? When I saw them I had to turn to GB and say: “How does she do him it and why?

This couple was far more age appropriate for each other. I figure they’ve been married for a long time. They were dressed alike all the way down to how they carried their cameras across their bodies. Unfortunately I didn’t quite get them both in the camera shot.

Then there was this outfit-it looked like a loose diaper that almost drug the ground while she walked around town. It was a strapless attire that kept slipping down-which explains the loose fit in the crotch. P.S. Her friend was actually dressed quite cute.

Since it’s a port town the “nautical” attire was popular with the men-with red pants being quite popular. Too bad I couldn’t let this guy know I was about to take his picture or he wouldn’t have blown his nose just as I snapped the photo.

This woman must have left home when it was still raining because she looked like she was ready for a tsunami to hit.

Even her feet were prepared for flooding-but I’m not sure how feet friendly these boots were on cobblestone.

See what I mean? It’s fun to people watch. Especially when you sit down at a little cafe and order the best diet Coke you’ve ever had in Europe because it’s been poured over a full glass of ice with a twist of lemon.

Just one problem. It required a bank loan in order to pay for the drink.

Yes, you see correctly if you’ve determined that each diet Coke cost 7 Euro (That’s the most expensive drink I’ve ever had.) But GB made it all okay when he said: “It’s the atmosphere we’re paying for-you’ve got to love the view from here.”

Somehow I don’t think he was talking about people watching.

Until next time!

Ciao’

Debs

P.S. Disclaimer:Jet lagPlease ignore all typographical or grammatical errors. I am indeed still suffering from j as it’s now 1:00 a.m., I’m wide awake while GB sleeps so that means I’m doing this post in complete darkness.
