One of the most frequent things that I am asked in regards to decorating the dining room is how to go about selecting and hanging the chandelier. There are certain rules to follow in order to get the correct height and scale:

Make sure that the chandelier you hang is at least 12 inches narrower than the table it hangs over. You need to allow enough space for those sitting at the table to get up without hitting their head on the light.

Allow 30-34 inches between the bottom of the chandelier and the tabletop in a room with an 8-foot ceiling. Add to this space by 3 inches for every additional foot of ceiling height.

When installing the chandelier it’s best to have a professional electrician do it for you. Most chandeliers are heavy and require a special electrical box and support system.

So now that you know the rules you can begin looking for the perfect chandelier. (And remember-there are always those who ”bend” the rules!)

    Happy Anniversary!

You know, I have never known a time I was happy with the light fixture on the different places we have lived in. Like women shop for the perfect pair of shoe, I am still on the look out for the perfect chandelier!

It’s true-finding the perfect chandelier has been difficult for me too. I love the hunt! Deb
