Today’s recipe comes from a cookbook titled “Daughter of Utah Pioneers Cookbook”.  This particular recipe was written by one Carol Crane (Thanks Carol!).  Try it out, I promise you’ll love it!

EASY FRENCH BREAD

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 2 Tablespoons yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon salt
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 6-7 cups flour
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Dissolve yeast in warm water.  Add other ingredients.  Knead 5 to 10 minutes to a soft dough.  Let rise.  Shape into 2 long and narrow loaves.  Preheat oven.  Place on a large greased cookie sheet.  Use rolling pin to get out air bubbles.  Brush with one whole egg that has been beaten.  Sprinkle with sesame seeds.  Make 4 diagonal slices across the top.  Let it rise again but don’t let it rise more than double before it’s baked.  Bake at 375-4oo degrees for 30 minutes.

Serve warm with butter and jam, and don’t worry about counting the carbs.  ENJOY!

Happy Baking!

We had a big family gathering a few weeks back, and my Mom made this recipe for us. It was delicious! I definately left her house on carb overload. :-)
